A new exhibition opening at Moran Gallery Sylvania is a heart-warming photographic celebration of Moran Sylvania residents and a trip down memory lane. The gallery walls will be filled with fascinating photographs and stories from yesteryear alongside the current day. Reminisce about days gone by and learn more about the day to day lives of our cherished resident community. The exhibition will cover a range of techniques, from film to digital to phone, capturing the formal, the casual and the candid image we now take for granted. A hand painted wedding photo, hangs next to a colour photo of the 2000 Sydney Mardi Gras and a 1929 B&W family beach photo. All images capture the vitality, excitement and reflect the times.
Said resident Margaret O’Neill – “It is wonderful to see vintage photos alongside memories of the staff at Moran Sylvania, I’ve enjoyed having a sneak peek at their special family moments and memories. No matter how young or old we are, we never stop making memories or being curious about the people around us. I have lived a wonderful life and I am excited to be sharing it with everyone through my photos.”
Making Memories will be officially opened at the Moran Gallery Sylvania on Tuesday 6 March at 3.30pm The exhibition will be open to the public from Wednesday 7 March to Sunday 22 April, 10am to 4pm daily with free entry
“As our loved one’s age, it’s easy to lose sight of them as the people they are. By telling stories from their lives, we maintain their importance in our community and celebrate their achievements. They are soldiers, chefs, home-makers, plumbers and shopkeepers. They have brought up families, fought for our nation and seen our community change and develop. Their stories are fascinating and give us a great deal of insight. By presenting this exhibition we can get to know each other better and reminisce over the ‘olden days” said Peter Moran, Managing Director.
In preparation for the exhibition, residents at Moran Sylvania could take part in a photographic workshop with award-winning photographer Louise Whelan. Louise is a professional and award-winning photographer who also operates free school photographic workshops on behalf of the Moran Arts Foundation. Photos capturing the residents’ workshop will form part of the exhibition along with photos taken by the residents.
