COVID-19 vaccinations begin – what are the side effects?

The COVID-19 vaccination program has begun at Moran Engadine this morning, Wednesday 3 March 2021.

We have received some questions about the possible side effects of the vaccine and what can be expected.  The following information has been provided by NSW Health.

Most of the more common side effects are related to:

  • Injection site pain (of varying degree)
  • Fever/Headache/Chills/Muscle pain/Joint pain – commonly described as ‘flu-like symptoms’ – these symptoms reflect the body’s initial immune response to the vaccine and are generally not serious or distressing.

Recent reviews of European side effects and data indicates that the Pfizer Comirnaty vaccine does not pose any greater risk in the frail elderly population (read more on page 2 here).

Latest reports from UK suggest that hospital admission for those over 80 years of age for COVID-19 have drastically decreased since the commencement of vaccination.

A factsheet is available which refers to monitoring of residents in the first 15 to 30 minutes observation time post-vaccination.  You can read more here.

As always if you have any concerns please contact us at Moran Engadine on  (02) 9548 7777.
