In collaboration with our friends and colleagues at Discover My World Early Learning Centre our Moran Building Bridges program known locally as Nan and Pops Club aims to create opportunities for fun, enjoyment and social interaction with between Moran Engadine residents and the children attending Discover My World ELC .
Education – this component focuses on helping children learn from and develop positive images of older adults as well as helping residents achieve a sense of worth. The project includes cooking, reading, storytelling, history and special Projects.
Friendships – this component not only helps increase our residents self-esteem but also the children’s aging awareness by developing a sense of caring and respect for the elderly.
Caring – this component provides opportunities for both young and old to make connections with each other and learn from each other through fun activities.
The first of our Nan & Pops Club visits to Discover My World Early Learning Centre took place on in July with the children and our residents making Lamingtons together. Our residents told of their recipes and how thing were done in their day. One of our residents shared her experiences of owning a cake shop and her own recipe for the best way to make a good Lamington.
The children responded by asking lots and lots of questions and learned about our residents. It was a beautiful sight to see our residents sharing their experiences, their wisdom and such a caring approach, this was rewarded by the children who showed so much respect and warmth back.
The feedback from this initiative has been so positive, we have a waiting list of residents wishing to attend and our August sessions scheduled for 14th and 25th.
We have had some wonderful testimonials from our residents and Discover My World to read more https://morangroup.com.au/testimonial/linda-walker/
