FEE & PAYMENTS

Non-Refundable Retention Fee on agreed Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) or Refundable Accommodation Contribution (RAC)

  • A non-refundable retention fee is applied to RAD/RAC from 1st Nov 2025. The aged care provider retains 2% of the deposit each year for up to five years, up to a maximum of 10%. This means that a portion of the RAD or RAC is non refundable as it is retained by the  provider, even if the resident later moves out.
  • Retentions from your RAD or RAC will not increase your Daily Accommodation Payments (DAP) or Daily Accommodation Contribution (DAC).

$65.55

The Basic Daily Care Fee in Australian residential aged care is a standard, non-negotiable charge that covers daily living expenses like meals, cleaning, laundry and utilities like heating and cooling.  It is a fixed amount, not based on income or assets, and is set at 85% of the basic single person Aged Pension rate.  This rate is updated twice a year by the government.  Everyone in an aged care home pays the basic daily care fee.  It is paid monthly, directly to the aged care home.

The Basic Daily Care Fee amount is reviewed on the 20th March and 20th September each year.  Read More HERE

The Hotelling Supplement Contribution (HSC) is payable in addition to the Basic Daily Care Fee for everyday living costs like meals, laundry, and cleaning. Services Australia determines the resident’s contribution to the hotelling supplement through means testing which assesses a resident’s income and assets to determine how much they contribute. The supplement amount is indexed annually. Read More HERE
Residents may be required to pay an NCCC to cover costs like bathing, mobility assistance, and lifestyle activities.  Services Australia calculates the NCCC by subtracting the sum of the maximum Accommodation Supplement and the maximum Hotelling Supplement from the residents means tested amount.  The NCCC is payable until the resident has been in aged care for more than four years or has paid a total of $130,000 (indexed) in NCCCs. Read More HERE
Higher Everyday Living Fee (HEL) are optional fees charged for additional goods and services not otherwise required to be provided under the Aged Care Rules and in line with the Aged Care Quality Standards. This enables a resident to engage additional goods and services to suit and enhance their lifestyle. Read More HERE
The amount of a compensation contribution is determined by Services Australia.  There is no set compensation contribution in aged care in Australia, as the amount depends on the specific claim and any associated aged care costs. A compensation payment is intended to cover past and future aged care expenses, which can include daily care fees, accommodation costs, and other contributions. The total amount is calculated based on an individual’s specific needs, and a means assessment will is required to determine how much of any compensation can be used to pay for aged care services.

For further information visit MyAgedCare  HERE

The fee reduction supplement is also known as a hardship supplement.  This is Australian government assistance for people in aged care who cannot afford their fees due to financial hardship. This supplement helps reduce or waive contributions for residential aged care, with eligibility depending on an individual’s financial situation. The supplement is paid to the aged care provider on behalf of the resident.

For further information visit the Australian Government, Department of Health, Disability & Ageing  HERE

In addition to care fees, you may also be required to pay an accommodation payment. The accommodation payment refers to the price of the room that you choose and will vary across aged care homes. To allow for flexibility there are 4 ways in which you can choose to pay for your accommodation. We recommend that you seek advice from an experienced financial advisor specialising in aged care.
Optional Personal Purchases are services and/or goods provided at Your expense and are not part of Schedule 2: Residential Care Services.  Examples include:

  • Hairdressing Services
  • Beautician Services
  • Patient Transport
  • Accompanied Visits
  • Allied Health Services not part of an assessed need included in Care & Services Plan

  • Room Set Up Assistance
  • Clothing labels
  • Admission Day Guest Meals
