Registered Supporter

All aged care residents have the option to nominate and register a ‘Supporter’ who will help them understand, make and communicate decisions about their care.   Anyone who is currently registered as an authorised representative in MyAgedCare will be automatically converted to a registered Supporter on 1st November 2025.   Anyone wishing to change,  nominate a new registered supporter or opt out of their existing arrangement should contact MyAgedCare on 1800 200 422 before 31st October 2025 or click on the link HERE for more information.

A Registered Supporter’s role is to support an older person to make their own decisions. A Registered Supporter does not have decision-making authority for the older person. The Registered Supporter does not have to be
• Next of Kin
• Enduring Guardian
• Enduring Power of Attorney

The registered supporter could be a close friend, relative or even a neighbour who is willing to be a sounding board for decisions, help communicate decisions and provide support to have your decisions respected.

Partner in Care

A Partner in Care is a close family member or friend who has a formal agreement with an aged care provider to regularly visit and provide routine care, companionship, and support, even during infectious outbreaks. This program, introduced by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, benefits both residents by reducing loneliness and providing continuity of care and support, and helps aged care services manage resources. Partners in care receive basic training in infection prevention and control and work with the aged care service to ensure the resident’s needs are met.
