We would like to introduce you to Therese and Frank Ebejer who are one of 10 couples that live in the Woodlands Community at Moran Kellyville. Therese (85) and Frank (90) moved to our Home in July last year, initially for a 6-week respite stay and they loved it so much they decided to make their move permanent.
Therese and Frank met in their early teens on the small island of Malta where they were both born. Therese was friends with one of Franks younger sisters. She says, ‘I used to admire him from afar. I didn’t really get to talk to him as he was my friends’ big brother”. Later Therese recalls that they used to promenade in the evenings around the small town where they lived and that’s how they got to know each other. They were engaged for 6 years before they were finally married.
Therese was the third child of a family of fourteen children, she left school when she was just twelve and became a housemaid. Frank was a French polisher by trade and then went on to purchase a bar in the Hibernians Football Club in the Maltese town of Paola.
In the 1960s Therese and Frank emigrated to Australia to create a better life for themselves and their young family settling initially in Rozelle and then later Smithfield. Later in life, Therese and Frank enjoyed relatively early retirement and spent their time travelling, with Therese organising bus trips for the local Maltese community and enjoying their family. They moved to Moran Kellyville from Smithfield to live closer to their children and grandchildren who are all living in the Kellyville area.
Therese and her daughter Gracie (pictured) are regular visitors to the Hamrun Maltese Club in Marsden Park where they enjoy rock’n’roll and line dancing sessions. Frank enjoys the quieter things in life, he’s very content with their bright sunny rooms, good food and new friendships.
When we asked Gracie why she and her brother Lawrence chose Moran Kellyville as a home for their Mum and Dad, she said,
“I am very fussy but, in the end, it was all quite simple. We were looking for a home with a nice ambience that was clean, fresh, and inviting.
I spent a lot of time watching how the staff engaged and interacted with the residents and each other.
When we walked into Moran Kellyville, I felt like we were being welcomed into someone’s home, everyone is so nice, they are always smiling and are very helpful.
At the end of the day – Mum and Dad are really content here and if they are happy then we are happy.”
