We would like to introduce you to Barry Dee, a resident at Moran Stockton and an inspiration to us all.
“Be warned…don’t ever tell a veteran they can’t do something,” says Barry, a Vietnam veteran whose remarkable journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of never giving up.
In 2023, Barry was given devastating news that his spinal injuries at both the C6-C7 and T10, meant he would never walk again. Doctors told him he would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
The injury at C6-C7 resulted in severe pain, weakness, and partial paralysis below the neck, while the T10 injury left him with limited or complete loss of use in his lower abdomen, legs and feet. But Barry, a man with unwavering strength and a warrior spirit, refused to accept this as his fate.
Over the past few months, Barry has worked closely with our dedicated physiotherapist Sarah, who has played an essential role in his rehabilitation. With an unrelenting commitment to his recovery, Barry has pushed through physical and emotional challenges, showing that determination can defy even the toughest circumstances. His hard work has paid off, and today, against all odds, Barry is walking again.
Barry’s inspiring journey is not just a story of personal triumph, but also a powerful reminder of the impact the team at Moran has in transforming lives. Our focus on enabling people to regain their independence, rebuild strength, and achieve their fullest potential is at the heart of everything we do.
