Celebrating our Volunteers

Jennifer Harrison

The NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards are hosted by The Centre for Volunteering and supported by the NSW Government to help promote and support volunteering across NSW.  They are now in their 20th year and celebrate the work of thousands of individuals and volunteer teams from a diverse range of organisations across the state.  Two very worthy volunteers from Moran Kellyville and one from Moran Sylvania received recognition of their nominations and were special guests at the 2026 Sydney Regional Awards announcement.

Congratulations to Rod Hard, a dedicated volunteer who visits residents at Moran Kellyville, spending one-on-one time with them every Tuesday morning.  Rod has been visiting our Kellyville Home for the past 2 years and his visits are something residents always look forward to each week.  He is well travelled, loves sports and is a retired school teacher. From sports and travel to food and politics, he can talk about virtually anything – it is easy to see why our male residents love chatting with him!

Congratulations also to fellow nominee Lay Kuan Toh who plays the most beautiful piano music for residents at Moran Kellyville every Monday.  Her group is always popular with residents who relish the opportunity to listen to live music. Lay Kuan plays songs residents know and love, many of them sing along with her tunes.  After each song, she asks residents to name the song and then they talk about the background of the song, who sings it or which movie it is from.

Congratulations to Jennifer Harrison who is a regular visitor at Moran Sylvania, helping out with many special events and lifestyle activities.  Jennifer started visiting the Home when her mother was in care, always being very supportive to all the staff and residents. After her mother’s passing at the grand age of 100 she continued visiting as a volunteer, attending twice a week for Choir and Happy Hour.  Her support with large events is especially helpful and Jennifer is always ready to look the part, wearing some fabulous themed outfits over the years.  The residents love her happy smiling face and the joy and laughter she brings to our Home.

Rod, Lay Kuan & Jennifer are truly deserving of their nominations and we feel absolutely privileged to have them as part of our community at Moran Aged Care.  Our heartfelt thanks go to them all and to all the volunteers who give their time freely and generously to enrich the lives of residents in Moran Homes.  Their commitment to spending time with residents at our Homes is truly appreciated by residents, families and the whole Moran team.
