Moran’s Chef Manager Aaron Dempsey recently attended a special afternoon tea at Admiralty House hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General to the Commonwealth of Australia. The occasion was a celebration of the cooks and chefs who deliver great food in aged care homes every day, a passion of celebrated Australian cook Maggie Beer. Aaron joined a small group of aged care providers from around Australia, all with experience of the Maggie Beer Trainer Mentor Program. The group was given a tour of the Admiralty House kitchen where items from the Maggie Beer cookbook were being prepared. After official speeches from the Governor-General and Maggie Beer, tea was served and the opportunity to share ideas and experiences, plus a photo opportunity with the hosts.
Said Dr Peter Moran, Managing Director, “Offering high quality, fresh and nutritious meals is something we have been doing for a very long time. We pride ourselves on providing residents with a wide range of food choices to meet their dietary and clinical needs. Our residents have always had the opportunity to provide feedback to our team whether in person or through our Food Forums on the meals and food services they receive and we look forward to continuing this tradition.”
Our time with The Maggie Beer Trainer Mentor program is now almost complete. Chef Manager Aaron Dempsey shared his reflections on the time spent participating in the program. “I am proud to say that we have been offering our residents the types of dining experiences that the Maggie Beer Foundation is striving to make the norm across all aged care facilities in Australia. For me personally I found that having contact and regular access to the Maggie Beer Chef Trainer/Mentor was invaluable, Paul McDonald was a helpful collaborator and sounding board for me as I prepared our Home’s kitchen teams for the strengthened aged care standards.”
