Somewhat of a craze has begun at Moran Kellyville and it shows no signs of stopping!  Art Therapy in the form of colouring-in or painting by numbers is so popular that the team at Moran Kellyville decided to run a colouring competition and exhibit some of the artworks.  The art submitted was beautiful and very colourful so the judges ended up choosing six winners who were proud as punch of their creations.

Ellice Sames used watercolours for her winning artwork.  “My son Michael and family introduced me to the book ‘The Aviary’ a bird colouring-in book. By the time I had completed my first picture of two swallows in flight, I was completely hooked. I find the experience of colouring and painting so creative and engrossing. I highly recommended it!” said Ellice

Other residents have become hooked on colouring and like Ellice, they’ve found it to be a relaxing and rewarding pastime that they can either do in their rooms or together in the common room.

Lifestyle Coordinator, Nelu, is constantly looking for new colouring-in templates for the residents to use.  “Some residents have artwork covering every wall of their rooms and the only blank space is the ceiling!  Some use watercolours, others favour textas or pencils.  Colouring has given them a pastime that is very satisfying,” said Nelu.

“For residents who like to spend time focusing on more creative hobbies, colouring has many benefits.  It is a great way to keep fine motor skills active and it is therapeutic.  Creating beautiful art is a soothing and stress relieving activity.” said General Manager, Nelly Banag.

“My life has changed for the better since moving to Moran Kellyville because I am doing things that make me happy and I am encouraged by the staff and friends here every day,” said resident and joint colouring competition winner Brigitte Karl.
