Giving thanks on International Nurses Day

International Nurse’s Day on 12 May 2020 is a day Moran Health Care Group recognises and thank all the care givers in our homes from nurses to the maintenance, administration, housekeeping and kitchen teams. Each employee plays an important part in the health and wellbeing of our residents.

At the same time, we tip our hats to today’s nurses worldwide and those from years gone by who go down in history for their service, innovation and care.

On International Nurse’s Day every Moran Aged Care employee regardless of their role will receive a nurse’s fob watch, a symbol of their role in ‘watching out’ for our residents and of us ‘watching out’ for our employees, particularly in these challenging times.  In return we thank our residents for watching out for our team members who have become part of their extended family.

Our residents are invited to wear specially made badges of thanks for their carers and families are encouraged to leave messages of support for our team on the Moran Aged Care Facebook page.  We’ll also be playing a special game of ‘nurse bingo’ and no day would be complete without sharing morning tea.

We’ll be using this day to reminisce with our residents about nurses and the role they have played in our lives.  In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, 2020 has been designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as The International Year of the Nurse and Midwife.

Florence Nightingale’s legacy is her total commitment to nurses being of the right temperament, character and education. She taught the values of compassion and discipline while speaking up, speaking out, collecting data for policy and emphasising the vital importance of education. Her influence forms the modern history of the nursing profession.
