Meet the Cottrells

Meet two of our newest residents Len and Jan Cotterell.

Prior to moving into Moran Roxburgh Park, the Cotterells had been living independently in a retirement unit in Craigieburn.  But they realised that their care needs were changing and that they needed to make some new plans for their future.

“Our main priorities were to stay together, to have access to a greater level of care and of course to stay in the local area,” said Len.

Len and Jan Cottrell learned about Moran Roxburgh Park through some friends and decided that they wanted to find out more about it.  “We made an appointment with Community Engagement Manager Rhys Blight, who showed us around and really made the process of choosing the home and moving in easy.”

When asked what he likes most about the home, Len said “it is a lovely spot with nice gardens and exceptionally good staff. We really like it here and we quickly felt right at home.”

The couple is enjoying making new friends and with meals served in small dining rooms of eight to ten people, there is a very comfortable homely feel.   Len and Jan have a couple’s/companion room with a private ensuite bathroom and a huge bay window that brings in lots of natural light and views of the beautiful gardens around the home.  “It has been particularly comfortable on very cold wintery days,” said Len.

Len and Jan met in 1965 when they were working at the same company in the city.  A year later they married!  Together they started their own company, supplying power tools to trade and they continued to work together for the next 32 years.

After retiring Len and Jan bought a property in a small country town 70km out of Melbourne.  They enjoyed country life and did quite a lot of travelling in their motorhome.  They have a close knit family, having helped bring up 4 of their 5 grandchildren who visit regularly, along with their son and other family and friends.
